This artwork was purchased from Executive Collectibles in their Spring Auction April 18th 1997 and was Lot # 918.
This original artwork to card #172 of Rip Repulski of the St. Louis Cardinal is slightly different than the final image used for the 1953 Topps card. It is bright and colorful, with tremendous detail. This painting is also unusual because it is one of only two 1953 Topps artworks we have ever seen that is larger in size than other similar artworks from the same year. The background has been slightly changed but the painting itself of Rip Repulski is the same. An example of the card is included.
